Product Description
Model 400 Double Shaft Shredder
Product Overview
The Model 400 Double Shaft Shredder is a compact, low-speed / high-torque primary shredding unit engineered to pre-cut bulky solid waste into uniformly sized pieces for downstream granulation or sorting. Driven by a single JZQ250 cylindrical gear reducer (4 kW) and equipped with a pair of counter-rotating rotors fitted with 20 blades (Φ160 mm, 20 mm width) plus 20 spacing sleeves, it delivers the shear-tear action needed to break down tough, oversized materials without wrapping or jamming.
Designed for scrap yards, WEEE dismantlers, wood- and plastic-recycling workshops, and solid-waste pre-treatment lines, the Model 400 is the ideal first-stage machine before fine granulators, copper-wire separators, or balers.
Working Principle
The Model 400 uses dual independent drives with synchronized counter-rotation to generate controlled shearing and tearing forces between two blade-studded shafts.
Low-Speed, High-Torque Cutting: Two shafts rotate in opposite directions. Claw-type blades are arranged in a staggered, meshing pattern, forming a progressive crushing chamber that pulls material in automatically—no auxiliary pusher required for most feeds.
Shear & Tear: As material enters the gap between the shafts, the hooked blades bite, shear, and tear it into smaller fragments. The spacing sleeves between adjacent blades define the discharge particle size; by changing sleeve thickness, the output size is easily adjusted without replacing the blades.
Overload Protection: The reducer and drive system are sized for shock loads. When an unshreddable object or momentary overload occurs, the system trips and reverses automatically, protecting the shafts, blades, and gearbox.
Discharge: Shredded pieces fall through the screen-less gap directly onto a take-away conveyor or into a collection bin, ready for the next size-reduction stage.

Reducer & Drive System
The Model 400 is built around a JZQ250 two-stage cylindrical gear reducer—a heavy-duty, horizontally mounted, cast-iron gearbox widely used in conveying, mining, and recycling machinery.
Type: JZQ250, soft-tooth-surface, two-stage cylindrical gear, horizontal split casing
Rated power coverage: 0.4–18.8 kW (4 kW fitted)
Ratio range: 8.23–48.57 (ratio selected to match target rotor speed)
Output torque: up to ~340 N·m per unit
Gear hardness: HRC 54–62
Lubrication: splash + oil-bath, with inspection cover, oil-level sight, and drain plug
Service rating: reversible rotation, continuous duty, working temperature −40 °C to +45 °C
Efficiency factor: ~0.94; strong interchangeability and simple maintenance
The single-reducer, direct-coupled layout keeps the footprint tight (just 1180 mm long), reduces coupling losses, and makes the 410 kg unit easy to relocate inside a workshop or bolt onto an existing line.
Blade & Shaft Design
Rotor diameter: Φ160 mm — small-diameter, high-torque geometry suited to fine- to medium-coarse primary shredding (typical output 20–50 mm depending on sleeves and claw count).
20 blades + 20 spacing sleeves: the blade-and-sleeve sandwich lets you set the exact discharge gauge. Thinner sleeves produce a finer product; thicker sleeves increase throughput and impact capacity.
Claw configuration: 2-claw / 3-claw / multi-claw available to match material type—more claws for finer output, fewer claws for bulky, high-impact feeds.
Modular quick-change structure: blades are bolted to the hexagonal main shaft; worn cutters are replaced individually without pulling the entire rotor, cutting downtime and regrinding cost.
Customizable blade material:
9CrSi / 9Cr2 — economical, good for soft waste (paper, fiber, film)
Cr12MoV / SKD-11 — high wear & impact resistance, HRC 58–62, ideal for wood, hard plastic, cable, and light metal scrap
H13 — hot-work, all-round performer for mixed industrial waste
High manganese steel — for abrasive, sand-laden demolition or MSW streams
Advantages & Features
Low Speed, High Torque: operates in the 5–20 rpm range, delivering massive shear force with low noise (<85 dB) and minimal dust generation—no high-RPM dust plumes.
No Wrapping, No Jamming: counter-rotating, staggered hooked blades continuously self-clean; long cables, film, and fibrous material do not rope around the shafts.
Overload Auto-Reverse: PLC / relay control detects current spikes and reverses the rotors to clear obstructions, then resumes automatically—protecting blades, reducer, and motor.
Heavy-Duty Frame: welded steel chassis with thick-wall square tubing; high-strength, heat-treated crushing chamber resists deformation under shock loads.
Precision Reducer: JZQ250 two-stage gearbox with high-efficiency gearing and reversible duty for long, maintenance-friendly service life.
Customizable to Your Grid: voltage and frequency (220 V / 380 V / 415 V, 50 / 60 Hz), blade material, claw count, and chamber lining all tailored to the material you actually process.
Applications
The Model 400 handles a broad range of mid- to low-hardness bulky waste as a pre-shredding / size-reduction machine:
Plastics & Rubber
Plastic bottles, barrels, pallets, crates, pipes, and sheets
Woven bags, ton bags, film, packaging straps
Rubber scraps, conveyor belts, and shoe soles
Wood & Biomass
Pallets, furniture, board, branches, garden waste, and sawdust briquettes
Paper & Textiles
Documents, cardboard, mill waste, clothing, and carpet
Electronic & Metal Scrap
WEEE / e-waste, appliance shells, cables, aluminum and light-gauge steel (<5 mm)
Note: pairs perfectly upstream of the Jiacui copper wire granulator—use the Model 400 to pre-cut long cables into manageable lengths before granulation and separation
Solid Waste
Municipal solid waste (MSW), commercial waste, RDF / SRF feedstock, bulky waste, and landfill pre-screen rejects
